WINEMAKING
This Meritage (37% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, 18% Malbec, 9.0% Cabernet Sauvignon) was harvested from the Similkameen Valley and Okanagan Valley over several beautiful days in October 2021. The wine was aged in new and one-year old French oak barrels for 18 months. Each variety was barreled separately, after which the best barrels were selected and blended according to structure, fruit concentration, mouthfeel, acidity, and aging potential. The wines were then bottled in August of 2023.
FLAVOR PROFILE
A bright purple garnet coloured Meritage with a complex bouquet of dark plum, black cherry, blueberry, vanilla, smoky oak, spice, and a touch of leather and chocolate. This full-bodied classic red blend has firm but not aggressive tannins, great structure, and moderate acidity. Flavours of ripe dark fruits (plum, currant and cherry), and sweet spice fill the mouth. The extra-dry finish lingers with notes of black tea, ripe dark fruits, cocoa powder, and sweet spice.
FOOD SUGGESTIONS
Enjoy with grilled red meats; mushroom stew; leg of lamb; grilled lamb chops; pheasant in a rich red wine reduction; steak and kidney pie; two-year-old cheddar and Bellavitano Merlot cheese. Wonderful cool evening sipping wine while watching the sun set over the lake or ocean.
