In 1976 we put our roots down as the first winery in Lake Country. Situated in the northern Okanagan Valley where cool climate, lake proximity, gentle slopes and pre-glacial soils unite to create exceptional flavours, here we were the first to plant Pinot Gris in Canada.
Inspired by our German roots and to celebrate the newly approved Lake Country VQA sub-appellation, we've launched our new Roots Collection featuring five remarkable wines unique to our heritage. Discover them all today.
Our Odyssey Pinot Gris is one of the first wines within our new Roots Collection showcasing our dedication to exception Okanagan terroir. We're proud to label this wine with our unique and new Lake Country Sub-Appellation. Hand picked from our Estate Vineyard this slightly off-dry Pinot Gris is smooth and rich. Winemaking
Pinot Gris grapes were hand-picked from our Estate Vineyard (Block 8) from some of the oldest vines in British Columbia (approximately 40 years old). The grapes were gently pressed, then the juice was separated into three lots. Twenty five percent was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks for pure fruit expression, twenty five percent was fermented and aged in new French oak barrels, and fifty percent was fermented and aged in a French oak foudre. The oak aged portions spent five months on lees with monthly battonage. Limited production of 424 cases.
Lake Country – Sub GI
Exclusively grown fruit along a 20km eastern shoreline of Okanagan Lake. West-facing sloped vineyards, late afternoon sunshine and warmth, lake moderated temperatures, good air, and water drainage. Unique terroir, Lake Country wines.
Characteristics
This Pinot Gris has a delicate copper pink hue from the grape’s pinky grey-coloured skins, and a perfumed bouquet of Bartlett pear, melon, and red apple, accented by honeysuckle and spice. This ever-so-slightly off dry wine is smooth, richly textured, medium to full-bodied with just enough acidity to refresh, along with flavours of spiced pear, melon, baked apple, and tropical fruit, which also linger on the finish.
Food Pairings
A lovely sipping wine for when the best of friends gather. Enjoy with mushroom and onion quiche; smoked salmon quiche; Tilapia baked with leeks and mushrooms; lightly breaded pan-fried fresh-water fish with buttered new potatoes; crab stuffed mushroom caps; lightly spiced crab cakes; poached salmon; pan-fried scallops; chicken in a cream sauce; crown roast of pork; black bean dip with unsalted tortilla chips; salmon and cream cheese pinwheels; roasted garlic hummus and pita chips.
Serving Temperature
To enhance a richer profile, serve slightly warmer at 13 to 15°C.
